ARTICLE 1: Church Identity and Affiliation

Section 1.1
Washington Heights Baptist Church is an autonomous body, fully empowered under the leadership of the Holy Spirit to carry out all the work of the Lord entrusted to His church.
Section 1.2
This church chooses to associate with the Kilpatrick Baptist Association, the Georgia Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention, so long as each association adheres to God's Word as the final authority for all matters pertaining to life and faith.
Section 1.3
Consistent with Article 1, Section 2, all officers, committee members, and leaders of the church shall be members in good standing (meaning those who are neither under church discipline nor on inactive status, as defined in Article 4, Section 4.3 and Article 7, Section 7.4). They shall affirm and support the work of our denomination and adhere to the beliefs of Southern Baptists, provided such beliefs remain consistent with the Word of God.
